2월입니다! 달력을 보니 오는 화요일이 입춘이라고 하네요. 콜로라도의 겨울이 지나가려면 아직 멀었지만, 어느새 봄을 기대해 볼 수 있는 계절의 문턱에 오게 된 것 같습니다.
지난 토요일에는 금년도 첫 속장/인도자 모임이 있었습니다. 날씨 관계로 한 속만 참석하지 못했고, 나머지 모든 속의 속장님들께서 함께해 주셔서 새해를 힘차게 시작할 수 있었습니다. 특별히 “젊음이 가득한 속”이 되기 위해 어떤 노력이 필요할지 함께 고민하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 나이가 들수록 새로운 것을 기피하게 되는 경향이 있다는 이야기 속에서, 올해는 각 속마다 “새로운 일 한 가지”를 정해 실천해 보기로 했습니다. 속 모임을 가지실 때, 여러분의 속이 우리 교회 안에 어떤 “새로운 바람”을 일으킬 수 있을지 한 번쯤 생각해 보시면 좋겠습니다.
2주 전에는 금년도 첫 임원회가 확대 임원회로 모였습니다. 이 자리에서도 “젊음이 가득한 교회”란 어떤 교회일지 함께 생각해 보는 시간을 가졌습니다. 여러 의견 가운데 특히 중고등부 말씀 사역과 어린이부 음악 사역, 그리고 중고등부가 함께 참여하는 선교 사역이 활발해질 때, 그 여파로 우리 교회 전체에 새로운 젊음의 기운이 풍성해질 수 있겠다는 기대를 함께 나누었습니다. 흥미롭게도, 젊은 교회가 되기 위해 라인댄스 클래스와 같은 새로운 시도가 필요하다는 데 많은 공감대가 형성되었습니다. 이번에 친교실 바닥 공사가 마무리되면, 무엇보다도 라인댄스 클래스부터 한 번 시작해 보면 좋겠다는 생각을 해 봅니다.
친교실과 부엌 바닥 공사는 순조롭게 진행되고 있습니다. 기존 타일을 제거하고 새 타일이 잘 붙을 수 있도록 실란트 작업을 마쳤으며, 금요일부터는 새 타일 시공이 시작되어 계단 랜딩 부분이 우선 마무리되었습니다. 부엌과 물품 창고에 있던 용기와 각종 용품들도 작업하시는 분들께서 모두 옮겨 주셨습니다. 석면 문제로 인해 공사가 다소 복잡해지기는 했지만, 이제는 끝이 보이는 것 같아 감사한 마음입니다. 반짝이는 새 바닥 위에서 신나게 펼쳐질 (?! ) 라인댄스 시간을 떠올리니 마음이 더 설렙니다.
계획대로라면 친교실 공사가 마무리되는 시점에 사순절을 맞이하게 됩니다. 올해 사순절은 조금 이르게 2월 18일부터 시작됩니다. 지난 사순절에는 ‘기도의 일천번제’를 올려 드렸다면, 금년 사순절에는 “삶의 4천번제 드리기” 캠페인을 진행해 보려고 합니다. 신자의 삶 속에서 일어나는 갈등과 고민, 그리고 그 가운데 역사하시는 하나님의 은혜를 깊이 있게 그려낸 신앙의 고전 “천로역정”을 함께 읽으며, 마음과 생각, 말과 행동 등 삶의 모든 영역을 새롭게 세워 가는 사순절을 준비해 보고 있습니다. 이에 대한 자세한 안내는 앞으로 2주간에 걸쳐 차례로 전해 드리겠습니다.
2026년도 교인 핸드북/주소록이 발간되었습니다. 주소록 편집을 위해 수고해 주신 김성태 목사님께 감사의 말씀을 드립니다. 올해는 작년과는 조금 다른 형식으로 편집해 보았는데, 앞으로 한 해 동안 한미 신앙 공동체의 일원으로 함께 걸어가는 데 소중한 지침서와 안내판이 되기를 바랍니다.
계획된 많은 일들로 아직 오지도 않은 봄기운에 벌써부터 마음이 설레는 2월입니다.

It is February! Looking at the calendar, I see that this coming Tuesday marks Ipchun, the beginning of spring on the traditional calendar. Although Colorado’s winter still has some time to go, we seem to have arrived at the threshold of a season where we can begin to look forward to spring.
Last Saturday, we held our first cell leaders meeting of the year. Due to the weather, one cell was unable to attend, but we were grateful that the leaders of all the other cells were able to join us, allowing us to begin the new year with new excitement. We spent time reflecting together on what it would take to become a “cell group filled with youthfulness.” As we talked about how people naturally tend to shy away from new things as they grow older, we decided that each cell would choose one new thing to try and practice this year. As you gather in your cell groups, I encourage you to think about what kind of new breeze your cell might bring into the life of our church.
Two weeks ago, we also held our first Church Council of the year. There, too, we reflected together on what it means to be a “Youth-ful Church.” Among the many ideas shared, we especially sensed a common hope that as the word-focused youth ministry, the children’s music ministry, and mission opportunities involving our youth become more active, a fresh and youthful vitality will spread throughout our entire church.
Interestingly, there was also strong agreement that becoming a youthful church requires new attempts not only in ministry but also in our fellowship and daily church life. One such idea was starting a line-dance class! Once the fellowship hall flooring project is completed, I believe beginning with a line-dance class could be a great first step.
The flooring work in the fellowship hall and kitchen is progressing smoothly. The surface has been sealed so the new tiles can adhere properly, and as of Friday, installation of the new tiles began, with the stair landing completed first. The containers and supplies in the kitchen and storage areas have also been moved by the workers. Although the presence of asbestos made the project more complicated than expected, we are thankful that the end is now in sight. Just imagining lively line-dance sessions on the shiny new floor makes my heart all the more excited.
If everything proceeds as planned, we will enter the season of Lent just as the fellowship hall project concludes. This year, Lent begins a bit earlier, on February 18. Last Lent, we offered the “1,000 Prayers” campaign; this year, we are planning a new spiritual journey called “Offering 4,000 Acts of Life.” We will also read the Christian classic The Pilgrim’s Progress, a profound portrayal of the struggles, conflicts, and grace experienced in the life of faith. Through this journey, we hope to renew every aspect of our lives—our hearts and minds, our words and actions—throughout the Lenten season. More detailed information will be shared over the next two weeks.
The 2026 Church Handbook/Directory has also been published. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Rev. Daniel Kim for his dedicated work in editing the directory. This year’s edition has a slightly different format from last year’s, and I hope it will serve as a valuable guide and reference as we walk together as members of the Hanmi faith community throughout the coming year.
With so many plans and hopes ahead, February is already filling my heart with anticipation for a spring that has not yet arrived!
