지하 친교실 공사가 다 끝났습니다! 부엌 하수구가 자주 막혀서 지난 10월에 시작한 공사가 5개월만에 끝을 맺게 되었습니다. 지하 친교실을 가로 질러 바닥을 들어내고 오랜 세월로 인해 굽어져 버린 파이프를 새로 교체하는 공사였습니다. 이 일로 친교실 일부 바닥의 타일을 새로 깔아야 했기에 이 참에 친교실 전체 바닥 타일과, 또한 친교부와 여선교회의 오랜 숙원이었던 부엌, storage room 까지의 타일 전체를 교체하자는 의견이 있어서 임원회의 결정으로 조금 크게 공사를 추진하게 되었습니다. 

원래는 한달 예정으로 시작했는데, 하수구 파이프의 상태가 생각보다 좋지 않았고, 타일 교체 과정에서 석면 문제와 공사 범위도 늘어나게 되어 계획보다 많이 늦어져 5개월만에 끝을 맺게 되었습니다. 그동안 2개월정도 친교 시간을 갖지 못했고 교육부 프로그램도 적지 않은 지장을 받게 되었는데, 그동안의 불편함을 참아 주신 여러분께 감사를 드리며, 또한 어려운 공사 일정을 인내하며 잘 이끌어 주신 재단 이사회 여러분께 감사를 드립니다. 수고하고 애쓴 손길에 감사하며 자축하는 의미로 오늘 친교 시간에 케이크를 준비해 달라고 친교부에 부탁을 드렸습니다. 조촐하게나마 함께 기뻐하고 축하하는 시간이 되기를 바랍니다. 

친교실 공사가 끝남과 함께 본당 사운드 시스템을 보완하는 새로운 프로젝트를 시작하게 됩니다. 저희 교회 본당의 사운드 시스템과 조명 시스템의 업그레이드가 필요하다는 지적이 오랫동안 있었는데 이번 45주년을 바라보면서 먼저 조금 더 시급하게 여겨지는 사운드 시스템 문제부터 해결해 보기로 재단이사회와 임원회에서 결정했습니다. 이번 프로젝트에는 여러가지 일이 포함되게 됩니다. 우선 성가대 찬양과 피아노 소리가 본당과 인터넷 예배시 잘 들리게 하는 마이크 시스템 설치, 찬양팀의 악기를 한 곳에 모을 수 있도록 새로운 케이블 설치, 찬양팀을 위한 모니터 설치, 총 16개나 되는 본당 스피커와 앰프 정리등, 설교 및 찬양소리가 본당뿐 아니라 인터넷 예배를 통해서도 잘 전달될 수 있도록 전체 시스템을 업그레이드하는데 2만불 정도가 들 것으로 예상됩니다. 

이 일을 위해서 임원회에서 여러분께 특별 헌금을 부탁드리기로 했습니다. 결코 적은 액수도 작은 프로젝트도 아니지만 오랫동안 미뤄왔던 일이기에 44주년을 맞으면서 함께 힘을 모아 잘 감당할 수 있도록 여러분의 기도와 도움을 부탁드립니다. 모금과 약정 기간은 이번 주일부터 부활주일인 4월 5일이 되겠습니다. 약정하실 경우 오늘 나눠 드리는 특별헌금 약정서를 작성해 주시고 약정 헌금은 공사가 끝날 예정인 9월까지 내 주시면 되겠습니다. 

사랑하는 교우 여러분, 교회는 진정 함께 기도하고, 함께 헌신하며, 함께 세워 가는 믿음의 공동체라고 생각합니다. 이번 친교실 공사 과정 속에서도 우리는 서로의 배려와 인내를 통해 공동체의 아름다움을 다시 한번 경험할 수 있었습니다. 그렇기에 여러분의 기도와 사랑이 모여 “44주년 감사 사운드 시스템 프로젝트” 역시 은혜 가운데 잘 이루어지리라 믿습니다. 하나님께서 우리의 헌신을 통해 예배가 더욱 아름답게 드려지고, 말씀과 찬양이 더 많은 사람들의 마음에 전해지는 은혜의 통로로 사용해 주시리라 믿습니다. 사순절의 여정을 걸어가고 있는 이때에, 우리 모두의 삶이 주님께 더욱 가까이 나아가는 시간이 되기를 기도하며, 주님의 평강과 은혜가 사랑하는 교우 여러분의 가정과 삶 위에 늘 함께 하시기를 축복합니다. 감사합니다!

The renovation of the basement fellowship hall has finally been completed! What began last October due to the kitchen drain frequently clogging has now come to an end after five months. The project involved removing sections of the floor across the fellowship hall and replacing pipes that had become bent and damaged over many years. Because this work required replacing some of the floor tiles in the fellowship hall, it was suggested that we take this opportunity to replace all the floor tiles in the fellowship hall as well as the tiles in the kitchen and storage room, something that the Fellowship Committee had long hoped to do. So, the Church Council decided to expand the scope of the project and proceed with a more comprehensive renovation.

Originally, the project was expected to take about one month. However, because the condition of the drainpipes was worse than anticipated, and of the asbestos concerns and an expanded scope of work, the project took much longer than planned and was finally completed after five months. During this time we were unable to hold fellowship gatherings for about two months, and the programs of the Education Ministry were also disrupted. I would like to sincerely thank all of you for your patience and understanding through these inconveniences. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Board of Trustees for faithfully guiding this challenging project with perseverance despite the many difficulties we encountered. In appreciation of everyone’s hard work, I asked the Fellowship Committee to prepare a cake for today’s fellowship time. I hope we can share a small but joyful moment of gratitude and celebration together.

With the completion of the fellowship hall renovation, we will now begin a new project to improve the sanctuary sound system. For quite some time there have been suggestions that the sound and lighting systems in our sanctuary need upgrading. As we approach our 45th anniversary, the Board of Trustees and the Church Council have decided to address the more urgent need first - the sound system. This project will include several improvements. These include installing a new microphone system so that the choir and piano can be heard clearly both in the sanctuary and during online worship, installing new cables so that the praise team’s instruments can be gathered and organized in one place, adding monitor speakers for the praise team, and reorganizing the sanctuary’s sixteen speakers and amplifiers. Altogether, this upgrade will help ensure that the preaching and praise can be heard clearly both in the sanctuary and through our online worship services. The total cost of this project is expected to be around $20,000.

For this reason, the Church Council has decided to invite the congregation to participate through a special offering. As we celebrate our 44th anniversary, we ask for your prayers and support so that we may accomplish this together. The fundraising and pledge period will begin this Sunday and continue until Easter Sunday, April 5. If you would like to make a pledge, please fill out the special offering pledge form being distributed today. Pledged offerings may be given anytime between now and September, when the project is expected to be completed.

The church is truly a community of faith that is built together through shared prayer, shared dedication, and shared service. Even throughout the fellowship hall renovation process, we were able to experience again the beauty of our community through mutual care and patience. For this reason, I believe that as your prayers and love come together, the “44th Anniversary Thanksgiving Sound System Project” will have no problem of being completed. Through our dedication and devotion, God will use this project for our worship to be offered even more beautifully, and for the message of God’s Word and the praise of His people to reach even more hearts. And as we continue walking through this Lenten season, I pray that the peace and grace of our Lord may always be with you and your families. Thank you!
