These days we are in full swing preparing for Vacation Bible School, which will take place from June 4–6. For this year’s VBS, Rev. Gurung, who will serve the Children’s Ministry through the end of May, and Kyurim, who will newly take over the ministry beginning in June, have been working together diligently in preparation. In addition, Rev. Daniel, Youth Director Ashleigh, Ms. Hyeyoung Lee who successfully led last year’s VBS, our church’s choreography expert Ms. Heejin, as well as the youth and young adults members, have all joined forces to prepare an awesome VBS! With only a few weeks remaining until VBS, I ask that you please pray for this ministry and also spread the word to families around you whose children might benefit from this great ministry!
Preparations for the Hopi Indian Mission Trip, which will take place from July 20–25, are also progressing steadily. With Rev. Daniel Kim, a team of about fifteen people has been formed and is preparation is on the way. There are more challenges for this trip than when we served the Navajo mission, so the beginning has not been easy. However, the Youth Group, Missions Committee, and Women’s Missionary Group are working together and faithfully preparing each detail one at a time. We especially ask for your generous support and prayers for the Mission Bazaar that will be held on July 11. Also, if there are those who would like to join the mission trip, please speak with Rev. Daniel Kim. Because of space limitations, we may only be able to accommodate one or two additional people.
I am writing this pastoral letter from a hospital room. I was supposed to travel to Atlanta to lead a revival meeting, but after feeling unwell beginning Wednesday, I went to the emergency room and was told that a kidney infection had developed into sepsis, requiring hospitalization and treatment. They explained that sepsis, in which the infection begins spreading through the bloodstream, can become highly fatal if early treatment is missed. So after asking for understanding from the church where I had promised to preach, I was admitted to the hospital. I cannot fully express how sorry I feel that my poor health management caused me to cancel such an important event.
As I spent the night in the hospital room, the song “You Will Not Walk Alone” came to mind: “When you walk alone in the storm / And when you have to face the storm and wind alone / Even when not a single light can be seen / You will not walk alone, not alone.” They say that when your body is sick, you become more sentimental as well. Perhaps that is why I found myself quietly shedding tears while listening to this song, Yet, at the same I also truly felt feeling deeply thankful. I realized that I have truly lived abundantly under God’s amazing grace, surrounded by the great love of neighbors, coworkers, friends, church members, and family. I even thought to myself that if God were to call me now, I would have few regrets. I ended up having a revival meeting all by myself in the hospital room. Truly, I have lived surrounded by tremendous love and grace, and I am deeply thankful that I can continue living in that same love even now. So many people have come to visit after hearing the news in various ways, and others have sent messages, called, and even brought food. Because of this abundant love, I have now been told that I may soon be discharged. Once again, thank you all sincerely for your prayers and love!
In my half-awake, half-asleep state, when I could hardly tell dreams from reality, I had an interesting, silly dream. In the dream, all the elders of our church had been admitted to the hospital, and after three days of busy visitations, everyone was discharged — AND they all left looking twenty years younger! Hallelujah! As for me, maybe not twenty years, but perhaps at least two months younger! Once again, thank you so much for your love and prayers. And please stay healthy!
