Happy New Year! 희망찬 새해가 시작되었습니다! 사랑하는 한미감리교회 모든 교우들 가정과 삶 위에 하늘의 신령한 복이 넘쳐나는 한 해가 되기를 마음 모아 축원드립니다!
새해를 시작하면서 먼저 1월부터 중고등부를 맡게 된 Youth Director Ashleigh Brandt 간사님을 소개해 드립니다. 지난 6개월간 기도하면서 중고등부 사역자를 찾았었는데 새해를 시작하면서 좋은 분을 모시게 되어 기쁘기가 한량없습니다.
Ashleigh 간사님은 Child Development, Special Education을 위한 Associate Degree를 소유하고, 현재 콜로라도 스프링스에서 Special Education Paraprofessional로 일하고 있습니다. 이곳으로 이사오기 전에는 First UMC of Tequesta 등 플로리다 지역의 교회에서 Sound Engineer와 찬양 사역을 통해 교회를 섬겨 왔습니다. 콜로라도 스프링스에 이사 온 뒤 “다시금 교회 사역을 통해서 하나님의 사랑을 청소년들에게 나눠주는 일을 하고 싶다”는 마음을 갖고 있었는데 이번에 우리 교회의 구인 광고를 보고 신청을 하게 되었고, 한달전에 우리 교회 중고등부 예배에 와서 말씀을 전할 기회를 갖게 되었습니다. 그 때 학생들과 학부모님들의 전적인 추천으로 목회위원회에서 금년부터 중고등부 사역자로 섬기도록 결정을 하게 되었습니다. 요즈음 중고등부 사역자를 찾기가 참 어렵다고 하는데 중고등부 목회를 위한 귀한 열정을 가진 분을 모시게 되어 새해를 시작하는 마음이 기쁘기만 합니다. 특별히 간사님의 찬양사역 배경을 통해서 중고등부에 찬양팀을 만들 계획을 함께 나누면서 찬양을 통해 중고등부 목회가 활성화될 것을 기대해 봅니다.
2026년은 우리 교회가 창립 44주년이 되는 해입니다. 이는 곧 맞게 될 45주년과 조금 더 길게는 희년인 50주년을 위한 준비를 시작해야 하는 해라는 부담감을 생각하게 되는데, 한 해의 시작을 새 일꾼과 함께 하게 됨이 큰 힘이 되는 것 같습니다.
45주년을 바라보면서 바라고 기대하는 일이 많습니다. 새롭게 집사, 권사등 일꾼을 세우는 일, 그리고 지난 역사를 기록으로 남기는 일들을 생각하면 벌써부터 감사로 마음이 채워져 옵니다. 또한 여러가지 시설을 upgrade 하는 일도 있는데, 특별히 차세대 목회를 튼튼히 하기 위해서 변화될 우리 교회의 모습을 그려 보면 지금부터 설렘으로 마음이 흥분이 됩니다. 작년에 하나님께서 선교의 지경을 넓혀 주셨는데 계속해서 넓혀져 갈 선교를 생각하면 뿌듯함과 함께 새로운 기대로 마음이 벅차 옵니다.
2026년도 새해 표어는 “젊음이 가득한 교회” 입니다. 젊은 세대로 교회가 새롭게 채워져 가는 것을 바라는 마음도 담겨져 있지만, 무엇보다도 우리 한미교회가 새로운 생각과 뜨거운 열정으로 다시금 힘차게 나아가는 한해가 되기를 바라는 마음을 담아 새 표어를 정하게 되었습니다.
성경에 보면 “새벽 이슬 같은 청년”이라는 표현이 나옵니다. 어둠을 깨우는 새벽의 힘찬 기운이, 새날을 바라보는 새벽의 그 밝은 가능성이, 그리고 대지를 촉촉히 적시는 이슬의 방대한 생명력이 2026년 한해동안 반세기의 역사를 바라보는 우리 한미교회 위에 가득하기를 마음 모아 간구해 봅니다. 아멘!

Happy New Year! A hopeful new year has begun! With one heart, I pray and bless that heavenly and spiritual blessings will overflow upon the homes and lives of all the beloved members of Korean American Methodist Church throughout this year.
As we begin the new year, I would first like to introduce Youth Director Ashleigh Brandt, who will be serving our Youth Group starting this January. For the past six months, we have been prayerfully searching for a youth minister, and it brings us great joy to welcome such a wonderful person as we begin the new year.
Ms. Ashleigh holds an Associate Degree in Child Development and Special Education and is currently working in Colorado Springs as a Special Education Paraprofessional. Prior to moving here, she served churches in Florida—including First UMC of Tequesta—through sound engineering and praise ministry. After relocating to Colorado Springs, she carried a desire “to once again share God’s love with youth through church ministry.” When she saw our church’s job posting, she applied and, about a month ago, visited our Youth Group to share a message at its Sunday service. After the visit, with the wholehearted recommendation of both students and parents, the Staff Parish Relations Committee decided that she would serve as our new Youth Director beginning this year. At a time when it is said to be especially difficult to find youth ministers, we are truly grateful and joyful to welcome someone with such a passion for youth ministry. In particular, as we have shared plans to form a youth praise team drawing on her background in praise ministry, we look forward with great expectation to seeing our youth ministry energized and strengthened through worship.
The year 2026 marks the 44th anniversary of our church. This naturally reminds us that we must begin preparing for the upcoming 45th anniversary and, looking a bit further ahead, the Jubilee 50th anniversary. While this brings a sense of responsibility, beginning the year together with a new servant of God is a tremendous source of encouragement and strength.
As we look toward our 45th anniversary, there is much to hope for and anticipate. Thinking about raising up new servants—such as deacons and exhorters—and preserving our church’s history in written records already fills my heart with gratitude. There are also plans to upgrade various facilities, and as we envision how our church will be transformed to strengthen ministry for the next generation, my heart is stirred with excitement even now. Last year, God expanded the boundaries of our mission, and as we think about how that mission will continue to grow, my heart is, once again, filled with both pride and fresh expectation.
The theme for 2026 is “Youth-full Church.” While this reflects our hope to see the church increasingly filled with younger generations, it also expresses our desire that Korean American Methodist Church will move forward powerfully once again—with new ideas and renewed passion—throughout this year.
In Scripture, there is an expression, “young people like the dew of the morning.” May the vigorous energy of the dawn that awakens the darkness, and the bright possibilities of a new day, and the abundant life-giving power of the dew that refreshes the whole earth, fill our church throughout 2026! This is my prayer for our “Youth-full Church.” Amen!
